Southam United manager Kyle King 'excited' ahead of new season

Southam United are finally set to return to playing Saturday football next season under new manager and former player Kyle King after two seasons away.

The previous men's team folded half-way through the 2024/25 season after financial struggles saw them locked out of their stadium with no electricity for months.

The tides have turned as things are back on the up now and King is looking forward to the challenge.

He said: "It's a massive honour to be given the opportunity to manage Southam United.

"The club means a lot to me, as well as the local community, so I am really proud to lead the first team.

"There is a real buzz around the club at the moment and I'm excited to help build something positive both on and off the pitch."

King played for the Saints in 2024 in the Hellenic Division One before they folded and has returned recently to take up the managerial role available for next season.

Ahead of their return, the club will be playing in the Coventry Alliance League next season, after missing out on a place in the Midland Football League.

He said: "Having previously played for the club, I already knew the values, the people and what Southam United is all about.

"That connection made it an easy decision when the opportunity came up - I’ve always wanted to challenge myself in management and this felt like the right place and the right time to do it.

"I want to help push the club forward and create a team that supporters and everyone involved with Southam can be proud of."

The club has a well-documemted history of struggling with poor ownership throughout the years but things look positive following a newly-formed volunteer committee who share the same beliefs as the new manager.

Preparations are now underway ahead of the 26/27 season on and off the pitch with minimal expectations going into the first season back in Saturday football.

King said: "The conversations were really positive from the start - we all shared similar ideas about the direction we want to take the team and the standards we want to set.

"It was important for us all to be aligned before stepping into the role and I think we’ve got a strong foundation in place to be announced shortly.

"We want to build consistency, bring a winning mentality into the squad and make sure players enjoy being part of the club.

"Obviously, everyone wants success and we’ll be aiming to compete in our first season back."
